02. Quickdraw Animation Society

Quickdraw Animation Society in Calgary is a non-profit animation centre, offering both film an digital facilities! Visit their room this year at Otafest and check out some of their work, as well as their equipment, and find out how you can start on your animation projects! Be sure to attend their lecture on the Saturday (repeated on the Sunday)!

03. The Calgary Kendo Club

The Calgary Kendo club practices kendo at the University of Calgary every Sunday, Monday and Thursday. This year, Otafest is pleased to have a demonstration provided by the Calgary Kendo Club, who's members participate in tournaments held all over the country!

Dave Rathnow & Shin Ken Kai Nobara (Iaido)
Iaido is Kendo's sister art – Japanese sword practice done with a live blade. Dave Rathnow has praticed the art for 12 years, and have given regular demonstration and talk on iaido at the Nikka Yuko Japanese Gardens in Lethbridge. Be sure to check out his demonstration and mini-lecture on this exquisite art, held together with the Calgary Kendo Club!

04. The 404s – Anime Improv

You know them, you love them! They’ve brought their show to cons all across and even ventured outside the Canadian boarders into Sakuracon in the US! The 404s return to Otafest to perform their unique brand of anime themed improvisation! A fan favorite!

05. The Society for Creative Anachronism – the Barony of Montengarde

The Barony of Montengarde is a member of the international Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc (or SCA), an international non-profit education organization dedicated to researching and recreating the customs, combat and courtesy of the Middle Ages. Otafest is pleased to bring back the SCA's Barony of Montengarde for a second year! If you missed out on their impressive heavy fighting and rapier demonstration last year, do yourself a favor, and don't miss them this year on the Sunday!

06. The Calgary Go Club

You've seen them before – strangely lined boards covered in black and white stones. Go is a game of strategy, played for a thousand years. Now, you can learn how to play too! Otafest is pleased to have the return of the Calgary Go club!
