Volunteer Application

Welcome to the Otafest Volunteer Application Form! Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Otafest!
This form will open on: January 20, 2013
This form will close on: March 31, 2013 at 11:59:59 PM MST

Our basic requirement of our volunteers is that they will volunteer for at least six hours for the duration of the festival. This may change closer to the date of the event based on the number of volunteers we recruit and how they are scheduled.

We ask for a $20 charge to volunteer which covers admission for the event, to make up for this we offer a fair amount in return including:

  1. Admission to the convention for the weekend (including times at which you are not volunteering),
  2. Lunch and Dinner on the days that you volunteer (excluding Friday),
  3. T-shirt, and
  4. Lanyard.

Departments

In addition to departmental responsibilities, volunteers are all also responsible to ensure that patrons who enter Otafest rooms have a proof of payment (a wristband).

Admissions: Volunteers for this department are usually chosen based on past volunteer experience, but feel free to request to volunteer in this area! Individuals in admission are responsible for admitting the patrons of Otafest. Duties include receiving payment at the registration desk, ensuring that patrons submit a complete registration form, manning the pre-registration booth, and manning the general information booth.
Successful Admissions volunteers are be responsible and have good customer service skills.

Audio/Visual (A/V): A/V Volunteers are responsible for operating the viewing rooms for Otafest and its patrons. This generally includes starting the programs for the rooms and ensuring that viewings run smoothly.

Policy Enforcement: The most important task in Policy Enforcement is to ensure that Otafest attendees are having the most fun they can have while staying safe and following Otafest's policies. Policy Enforcement volunteers travel in pairs, who are under 18 will be assigned a partner who is over 18 years old.

Special Events: Special Events volunteers help with the set up and take down of the various panels or events that happen throughout the convention. Volunteering with Special Events also means possibly helping the panelist/event runner with various tasks to help their panel run smoothly. These tasks can be very different depending on the panel/event in question.
Successful Special Events volunteers are assertive, able to make sure that panels and events don't go over time, are flexible/creative, and can improvise.

Vendors: Volunteers help with the set up and take down of the vendor room. In the past, we've set the room up and organized the floor for the vendors as well as help the vendors set up their wares. Individuals will also be monitoring the floor to ensure the safety of the vendors and their merchandise as well as the safety of patrons.

We will be sending out emails to our volunteering applicants after the application deadline has been reached!
